Singapore Women in Technology (SWIT) |
| |
SWIT started in 1997 as an informal networking group for professional women working in Singapore's information technology (IT) field, promoting the exchange of ideas and information. In May 1999, the group was officially formed as an IT interest group of the Singapore Business & Professional Women's Association (SBPWA), to benefit from SBPWA's international business network |
| |
SWIT aims to play an important role in Singapore's vision to harness IT to enhance overall competitiveness and quality of life. The group provides a platform for women professionals from business, government, research, policy and other sectors to come together regularly and discuss relevant IT issues. To face the challenges of this fast-paced industry, this forum provides educational and networking opportunities, to impart knowledge and foster friendships among members. |
| |
In the past few years, SWIT has organised events at regional IT conferences and expositions, including CommunicAsia and Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference for Operational Technologies (APRICOT). Our panel discussions comprised women holding significant positions in the IT industry, who shared their varying points of view on a wide range of topics of interest to women in the IT industry. There were lively debates as to whether IT leveled the playing field for women, discussions on ways that IT could be used to empower business women, and suggestions on how to use technology to best advantage. These seminars have been very well attended, and have received much support from local businesses and government bodies. |
| |
SWIT networking events are held on a regular basis to provide good opportunity to network with fellow IT professionals in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We invite guest speaker to present their views on pertinent IT subjects. We invite professional women from multinationals and local companies alike, as well as those in government, academia and policy, to join SWIT. You may be a woman working in the IT industry, or you may be a user of IT seeking to stay abreast of new technologies. |
| |
Non-members are welcome to attend as guests for a maximum of two meetings after which application for SWIT/SBPWA membership is required. |
| |
SWIT is also spearheading the E-biz project in SBPWA. This is an exciting business platform for women who wish to expand their businesses to an online environment. For more information on how you can take advantage of the E-biz opportunities, refer to Business Center on this website. |
